My name is Emma Davies. I worked for nearly two decades in the corporate world, traveling the globe and leading sales teams. I have moved continents three times and been fortunate to have traveled and lived in some beautiful places.
As a corporate leader, I developed a broad range of skills, from leadership and change management to coaching and team & business development. I am also a trained Yoga & Meditation Teacher using this practice both in and out of the workspace. I am exceptionally proud to have run four marathons and completed three tough mudders. My most significant achievements in change are my overseas moves and the immense lifestyle change that I undertook to manage and heal an autoimmune disease so that I could continue to perform optimally and enjoy my personal life.
The modern paradigm pushes us all to be specialists, yet I have built success by having a wide range of skills and interests with the flexibility to turn my hand to what is required. With an open mindset, I have overcome the obstacles that I have faced and nurtured the resilience that lifts me back up if things don’t go to plan. And yes, there have been lows, and there have been mistakes because I like everyone else am only human. The trick is to learn from mistakes and move forward positively from them.
My decision to leave the corporate world came as a result of meeting my husband and wanting to live with him, which happened to be in Canada, yet my lovely, expansive network of family and friends mostly live in the UK. As a result I’m currently exploring what my future work life will look like in order for me to live in Canada but have the flexibility to visit my original home for more than two weeks a year. I’m also exploring the concept of work not feeling so much like work but an extension of myself and what I can offer to the world!
This blog first began as ‘Galarryvanting’ when I moved to LA with work four years ago. For reasons unknown to anyone these days, I was called and still am called Larry by all my school friends. Hence the combo of Larry and my Gallivanting over seas. When I made the decision to move to Canada to be with my husband and embark on a totally new future career I was in Pembrokeshire, Wales. As a result I renamed my blog to Hyblyg, meaning flexible or versatile in Welsh, after the nation that for many years has inspired me and for the skill that has most empowered me and will continue to serve me well on this new life adventure – flexibility.
Success, achievement, or contentment, whatever you call it, and whatever you are striving for, starts with the flexibility and resilience of your mindset to embrace changes that are needed to get you where you want. The decision to move to Canada was not easy, and the experience I’m living is often far from easy. I have confidence in why I made my decision however and am using all my learning and skills in leading change and continuing to reflect on and develop myself through challenges, to set myself up for a bright and happy future.
